Curriculum
At Dixons Ashton Academy, our curriculum is designed to transform life chances. We believe every young person, regardless of background or starting point, deserves a broad, ambitious education that opens doors and creates opportunity. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure that students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in further education, employment and modern life. It reflects our academy values and our deep commitment to the community we serve.
We have structured our curriculum so that learning builds over time. New knowledge connects to what students have learned before, helping them develop secure understanding rather than moving quickly from topic to topic. Our three year Key Stage 3 gives students the time to build strong foundations before beginning GCSE courses in Key Stage 4. All students continue to study a rigorous academic core at GCSE and the EBacc pathway is open to everyone.
We place strong emphasis on reading, vocabulary and communication because we know that confident literacy skills unlock success across every subject. Reading is embedded across the curriculum, and we provide additional support for students who need additional support to develop their reading, writing or mathematics so they can fully access their learning. Subject specialists design and deliver lessons that revisit key ideas, address misconceptions and give students opportunities to practice and apply their learning independently.
All students have access to academic study, enrichment, leadership opportunities, the arts, physical education and personal development. Alongside academic success, we develop character, resilience, leadership and social responsibility. By the time students leave Dixons Ashton Academy, they are well prepared for their next steps, equipped with strong qualifications, secure knowledge and the confidence to contribute positively to their community and wider society.
Please note that parents have a right to withdraw their child from part or all of Religious Education (RE) and parents have the right to request withdrawal of their child from sex education (but not from relationships or health education, nor from statutory science).
Please contact the academy via email should you wish to discuss this or if you wish to find out more information about the curriculum for any of our subjects.
